('11 C300 vs Mk5) Also, I'll probably buy my mom's old New Beetle. Maybe I could turn it into a Baja Bug and pull some mad Orloves. 4" lift kit with 6-spoke steelies painted in the same electric blue/violet as the car would look kinda cool and would work really well with potholes in the winter. 5MT + 1.8T + AWD. Call it the New Baja. Also, should I bring back Friday Evening Question?

Do it!
It's too bad Mercedes makes just about nothing with a manual anymore.

This gen C-Class is very, very good. A popular seller here in Toronto. Everybody who used to drive 3-Series are driving this.
Merc is back to form.

Talk to Brian first.
I think his Dad has an AWD C300. He said it's the worst car he's ever driven. But it's the slushbox version.

I thought it was good too. Not sure why Brian's Dad got a dud.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 19:27 |

It would. They stopped in 2011, but they're real bargains and good 3-series alternatives. I wish I knew where I could get wheels like the ones Raph has, though.

very nice looking cars to drive and to be in. Get a 6MT!!!

Not a big beetle fan but if you make it into a Baja-Nu-Bug that would honestly be one of the most bad ass things ever.

Man, how is it that I always seem to screw that up?
![]() 04/04/2014 at 19:39 |

Here, too. Driven by every yuppie with a nice condo, basically. It's a bitch to find the incredibly rare manuals, though.

Haha, thanks. It'd be fun to take to C&C and drive around really wealthy areas. I'm thinking that if I can get that for around $2500 (2001, not in great shape), I'd have money for another W124 project as a summer cruiser/highway missile. The M103 and 4G-tronic are both outdated, yet better than anything today.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 19:45 |

Agreed! It's not easy to find manual ones, though. Especially around here at a good price.

Huh, I always thought they were decent but a good Mercedes sports sedan is a rare thing indeed. I have very limited experience with them.

His Dad's car might be a dud.
My Mom has a RWD C250 Automatic and it's been just fine. It's slow, but it's reliable. And it's comfortable.
I think it's a 2011.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 19:55 |

C250s definitely aren't fast, but do have enough torque to get them off the line. That's what I drove. I'm guessing it's a dud, because I've heard pretty good things. Fun fact: unless otherwise optioned, an SLK has the 1.8 turbo from the C250 and the 6MT from the C300!
![]() 04/04/2014 at 19:56 |

That's cool on the SLK!
My Mom's car as the old N/A engine. Maybe it's not a 2011.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 19:59 |

Oh, you're probably right. Maybe the turbo mill's more recent. Too bad the SLK costs around $50,000 starting... I'll have a 993 Cab instead, please.

It costs THAT much!
Wow!

That is the shit! Although I definitely couldn't do that to the car I grew up with much of my adolescence.

When I first had the idea, that's the first car I saw. Great build! I'm thinking a complimentary E36 or W124 project is in order once I have the funds...

I HAVE BEEN SUMMONED
It's not that my dad's car is all that bad. It's just so much worse than the 2011 328i xDrive my mom drives. Here, I wrote a comparison:

And yeah I just used the wrong spelling of complementary. But whatever.

ohhhhh
i thought you hated your dad's car
you're just annoyed by the body roll and weird steering wheel
![]() 04/04/2014 at 22:25 |

Thanks for that! I figured the BMW was better, but the W204 is so rare and cool. Good writeup, BTW; I wish my parents had driven such nice cars!

wut?
![]() 04/04/2014 at 22:25 |

The steering is truly bad, purely a luxury car and nothing else. If it was taken to a track and pushed, I'm sure it would break. The BMW would have an easier time, however.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 22:26 |

My Mom used to have a 3 Series. She said it felt "sportier" than her C250. She can't quantify how, she just knows.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 22:27 |

Thanks, and I see those things all the time!
But that's probably because I live in a bustling/over populated/douchey place.
The BMW is better in every way, trust me.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 22:28 |

That is the exact feeling I have with those cars. I just know . It might be the chassis setup. It's probably so much better sorted.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 22:31 |

No, they are really common here too. I was speaking strictly about the 6MT. I believe you 100%. I probably just needed someone to reaffirm the impossibility of my fantasy.
![]() 04/04/2014 at 22:33 |

Oh, yeah. I've only heard and seen pictures about those. I'm still convinced they're a myth.

Pretty close to it. Only 1200 in the U.S.

I found a black one somewhere in the area (within 100 miles) for $16.5k I think with 45k miles on it. Not bad!
![]() 04/05/2014 at 02:22 |

since mercedes doesn't make very many cars with a manual anymore, the 6MT C-class will share the same pedal operated parking brake as the automatic. One day you might miss the clutch and engage the parking brake.

That's a good point. It would definitely be a nuisance, but could be a safety problem as well.
